Switching Perspectives
Throughout this discussion I have been thinking about what the American Dream is. At first I thought it meant that everybody wanted the same dream. After hearing so many sides to the story, I have come to realize that it's not about everybody having the same; it's about everybody being able to have their own. Having this freedom is something that other countries make impossible for its inhabitants. I am a very lucky person to be able to reach for my dreams. Being a singer is all I have ever wanted. Living in this country I have a million opportunities that I can take to help me reach that dream. The American Dream isn't about what dream we reach, it's about the freedom to do so, as peers have said.

I really like how you said, "I have come to realize that it's not about everybody having the same; it's about everybody being able to have their own." That does make it the freedom to pursue your own dreams. The dreams may be individual, but the freedom is universal.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about "[it] isn't about what dream we reach, it's about the freedom to do so". I believe that is true. because every dream comes in different shapes and sizes, and without the freedom to do so i think it would be disappointing to all if we didn't have a chance to pursue that dream.
