Dreams
by Langston Hughes
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
I know this doesn't necessarily say anything about the "AMERICAN Dream" but i still think it fits. This poem tells me that if no one pursued their dreams then we would have no America. I think it means that life would be pretty dang close to pointless if nobody had a dream that they wished to accomplish one day.

Great choice, Sydni. This is one of my favorites by Langston Hughes. I think you're right in that his broader idea of dreams does connection to our specific discussion of the American Dream.
ReplyDeleteYou rock. :] I love reading your opinions on things. Because you're blunt & get your point across whichever way you need too. I like your points in this blog. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the point you made. "if no one pursed there dreams there would be no america" i like that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sydi and Langston Hughes, that with out having dreams we are living a pointless life, and are like a broken-winged bird that can not fly.
